Here at Digital Hippo, we pride ourselves on tackling complex IT challenges. We don’t just fix computers, we solve problems that impact people’s lives and experiences. Recently, we encountered a particularly unique audio setup that required some creative troubleshooting: connecting Oticon hearing aids to a Samsung TV and Soundbar system. This wasn’t your typical “no sound” scenario, it involved navigating the intricacies of Bluetooth compatibility and finding an elegant workaround.
The Problem: A Hearing Aid User’s Audio Dream, Hampered by Technology
Our client, a valued customer, wanted to enjoy their favorite shows and movies on their Samsung TV with crystal-clear audio directly streamed to their Oticon hearing aids. They already had a Samsung Soundbar for enhanced sound quality, but the ideal solution was direct streaming to their hearing aids for personalized volume control and clarity.
The core of the system involved an Oticon TV Adapter 3.0. This device is specifically designed to connect audio from TVs (and other sources) directly to compatible Oticon hearing aids via Bluetooth. However, here’s where things got tricky: The Oticon TV Adapter 3.0 doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth capability for direct connection to the Samsung TV. It relies on receiving an audio signal through a wired connection (typically optical or RCA).
This presented a significant roadblock. Simply connecting the Soundbar wasn’t enough, our client needed that direct, personalized hearing aid experience. Directly pairing the hearing aids with the TV was impossible without bridging this Bluetooth gap.
The Solution: Introducing the Mii B06Pro – A Clever Audio Bridge
After careful consideration and research, we determined the best solution involved a third-party device: the Mii B06Pro Long Range Bluetooth Receiver. This little gadget is a game-changer for situations like this. It’s designed to receive audio via optical (Toslink) connection and then transmit it wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Here’s how we implemented the fix:
Optical Connection: We connected the Mii B06Pro to the Samsung TV using an optical audio cable. This provided a high-quality digital audio signal from the TV to the receiver.
Bluetooth Pairing (Mii B06Pro to TV): We then paired the Mii B06Pro with the Samsung TV, effectively making the receiver appear as a Bluetooth speaker to the television.
Hearing Aid Connection: Finally, our client was able to pair their Oticon hearing aids directly to the Mii B06Pro, completing the audio chain and delivering personalized sound directly to their devices.
Samsung’s Multi Connect Feature: A Bonus for Shared Viewing
What’s even better is that this setup allowed us to leverage Samsung’s Multi Connect feature! This fantastic functionality, introduced on 2022 Samsung TVs (and available on some newer models), allows you to connect multiple Bluetooth audio devices simultaneously.
Imagine this, one family member wants to enjoy the movie with their earbuds for a more immersive experience while another prefers the richer sound of the Soundbar. With Multi Connect, both can have it! Here’s how it works (and something we guided our client through):
- Pairing Mode: Put your Bluetooth device(s) (in this case, the Mii B06Pro and potentially a separate Bluetooth speaker or headphones) into pairing mode.
- Navigate to Settings: On your Samsung TV, select
Menu > Settings > All Settings > Sound > Sound Output > Bluetooth Speaker List. - Pair & Connect: The TV will scan for available devices. When the device appears on the list and shows “Needs Pairing,” highlight it and select “Pair and Connect.”
- Multi Connect Magic: For subsequent Bluetooth devices, follow steps 1-3. However, instead of selecting “Pair and Connect” directly, you’ll see an option for Multi Connect. Select this to enable simultaneous audio output to both devices!
